Mobile tech company Blackberry and transport monitoring specialist Fleet Complete have confirmed that they will expand their strategic partnership.
Fleet Complete is to purchase Blackberry Radar-M devices to power its new program, BigRoad. This provides owner/operators of individual trucks, as well as haulage companies, with the ability to book loads and get paid quickly for the jobs they carry out.
By throwing real-time location information into the mix, shippers and carriers will get better insight into delivery schedules and enable the BigRoad platform to match available drivers with spare capacity on their tracks with additional logistics jobs along their routes.
24/7 freight management
BlackBerry entered the fleet management market last year with the launch of its Radar solution, as its mission to find renewed relevance continues. If Blackberry is to offset dwindling smartphone and services sales, telematics is probably not a bad choice in terms of growth potential – but it will be forced to compete with more established companies in this space, such as Omnitracs, Teletrac Navman, Trimble and Verizon.
BlackBerry Radar provides near real-time information such as vehicle location, route and mileage, temperature, humidity, door status, and cargo load state on a single intuitive on-line dashboard.
The company claims it collects up to 100 times more data than conventional GPS-based track-and-trace solutions, and uses this information to build a 360-degree visualization of a customer’s assets to ensure safety, security, and regulatory compliance. All data is stored securely on a cloud platform.
“With BlackBerry Radar, BigRoad users will immediately see the benefits that come from unparalleled visibility into their cargo and mobile fleet assets,” said Philip Poulidis, senior vice president and general manager of BlackBerry Radar.
“Radar-M provides up-to-date information on a trailer’s available capacity and location so that drivers are able to know exactly when and where they are able to take on more loads.”
Tony Lourakis, CEO of Fleet Complete, added: “Fleet Complete and BigRoad are committed to finding innovative ways to help drivers save time, comply with government regulations, and more importantly, make more money.
